Resolutions for Healthier Eating

It’s almost that time again!  The year is closing out and 2012 is just a couple of days away.  When the new year comes in people make it a point to create resolutions for it.  Most of these resolutions have to do with being healthy.  Maybe people want to start eating healthier or start working out or both.  So if you are trying to resolve to eat healthier, you are not alone.  Here are some tips that can really help you along the way to a healthier and happier life.

Eat in instead of out.  You would be surprised how many extra calories you consume in a restaurant as opposed to cooking dinner at home and eating it there.  Restaurants give you bread that you mindlessly eat or prepare foods in a way that is not healthy at all.  A bonus is that you will also save money by doing this too.

You will also save money if you pack your own lunch each day.  One of my favorite lunches is super easy to create the night before.  Just pre-make some brown rice or quinoa to pack and take some fresh baby spinach leaves and shredded carrots.  Before you heat up the rice or quinoa at work, put the spinach and carrots in the bowl and heat them too.  It is so filling and super healthy.

Pre-cut your snacks.  It is so much easier to snack on fruits and veggies when they are ready to go.  Every Sunday I cut and portion my snacks that will last until Wednesday, then Wednesday I do it for the remainder of the week.  To make sliced apples last, cover the slices with lime juice and the acids will preserve the apples.  Broccoli and carrots are other great crunchy snacks.

Eating healthy is doable and small simple steps can make a huge difference in how you eat and feel.  Good luck and happy New Year!
